Public Notice

Morrilton Intermediate School’s (MIS) effort to improve literacy and math instruction inadvertently caused MIS to not meet the ADE requirements for physical education (P.E.).   Morrilton Intermediate School did not meet the required minutes of physical education according to the state standards for accreditation during the 2014/15 school year, and so has been placed on probationary status.  Last year’s Arkansas Department of Education rules governing nutrition and physical activity standards state:

             7.01.1.1 Sixty (60) minutes of physical education training and instruction each calendar week of the school year;

               7.01.2 For students in grades five through eight (5-8) who attend a public school organized to teach grades five through eight (5-8) or any combination thereof, sixty (60) minutes of physical education training and instruction each calendar week of the school year or an equivalent amount of time in each school year, with no additional requirement for physical activity

The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) adopted new physical education requirements this year.  MIS would have met standards last year under these new requirements.  Morrilton Intermediate School will be in compliance according to the ADE physical education standards during the 2015-16 school year.
